Choice Foods Thailand Ltd., founded by Australian national Bob Coombes, has provided hotels and restaurants with high-quality meat and vegetable products for nearly half a century. In 1972, Bob saw an opportunity to bring fresh, top-quality meats to Thailand from Australia as the country was opening up to foreign investment and Western influences, and Bangkok was becoming a popular tourist destination with a growing hotel industry. At the time, imported meats were coming to Thailand from the United States via Singapore and Hong Kong, compromising their freshness and quality. So, Bob decided to take matters into his own hands, importing meats directly from Australia and personally going to the airport to pick up the meats and delivering to hotels from his car, establishing the first direct meat import business in Thailand. In addition to his role as an importer, Bob also owns the popular restaurant Bob's Grill & Bar, where he only sources the best ingredients to serve customers.
