Taste of Tradition: Songkran

Try out these #GreatBeefPotluck dishes, featuring beautiful cuts of Australian beef incorporated into flavourful, iconically Thai dishes from all around the region for your Songkran dinner.

Songkran looks different for everyone, but there is always one thing in common: coming together and celebrating with good food and great company. This Songkran, we’ve teamed up with some of Thailand’s best home-cooks, to bring you a taste of what Songkran is like for them! The theme for our Songkran dinner table is the #GreatBeefPotluck, which features beautiful cuts of Australian beef incorporated into flavourful, iconically Thai dishes from all around the region.

First up, we have an appetizer prepared by Tui from @tui.u.ri.cooking, a Thai Style Beef Bulgogi Wrapped with Fresh Vegetables. Songkran is typically the hottest time of the year in Thailand, so a fresh and herbaceous dish like this will help cool you down.

Thai food is all about a balance between spicy, sweet, sour, and savory. Which the Esan Hotpot by Farm from @farmiscooking balances very well. The broth is served over heat on the dining table, so that thin slices of Australian wagyu can be dipped in at your own pace, and enjoyed with rice and a staple Thai dipping sauce.

For a more filling dish, the Claypot Glass Noodles with Seared Ribeye Steak by Taew, of @nuanua_cooking pays homage to a dish prepared with love by so many Thai grandparents. Cooked and served in a claypot, the flavours of the seared Australian ribeye merry with the aromatic Thai Chinese spices of the glass noodles.

To round off the #BestBeefPotluck, a popular Thai street-food made at home. The Mala Beef Skewers from Pat of @cookingbypat are sure to get your taste buds tingling. A Szechuan peppercorn glaze is brushed over cubes of Australian Sirloin as the skewers are kissed with charcoal flames. Making each cube perfectly charred, tender, and filled with peppery goodness.
